The overall goals of World Patient Safety Day are to enhance global understanding of patient safety, to intensify public participation in health care safety, and to advance global actions aimed at improving patient safety and reducing patient harm. The origin of the day is rooted in medicine’s basic principle of “do no harm in the first place”.
The Covid-19 pandemic is one of the biggest challenges and threats facing the world and humans at present, and it is the largest crisis in the health care field ever in terms of patient safety. The pandemic has put unprecedented pressure on health systems around the world. Health systems cannot function without health workers and it is essential to have a well-informed, qualified, and motivated health workforce to provide safe care to patients.
